Backpacking in the
Rocky Mountain National Park
July 2019
Easy adventure
Took 10 days to explore Rocky Mountain National Park, Denver, and Estes Park with Jon, Hannah, and Ariana. Learned a lot about altitude and backpacking…definitely inspired some new ideas for the Woolly Bear as well. Solar shower, solar panels, fishing pole racks, awning, etc.
We had an amazing time doing a huge range of things like…
TRAILS:
- Loch Lake Trail via Glacier Gorge Trail (including Dream Lake, Lake Haiyaha, Bear Lake)
- Overnighting back country at Lower Tileston (10+ miles with 35ish lb packs)
- Pole Hill Jeep Trail
- Gem Lake from Lumpy Ridge Trailhead
- Button Rock outside of Lyons CO
CAMPING:
- Stayed 3 nights on a small farm outside of Denver with 3 dogs (Ophie, Cinnamon, Tip Top) 15+ goats, 3 cows, 2 piglets, sheep, alpaca, and chickens. I still love the Woolly Bear…it’s so cool and functional.
- Survived the windiest evening I’ve ever experienced… Jon and Hannah’s tent was basically being blown flat.
- I CAUGHT A CHICKEN AND MILKED A GOAT!
- Mega Rainbows
- Backcountry at Lower Tileston
- Estes park KOA (Showers are good…)
DENVER:
- Rockies game at Coors Stadium
- First Draft
- Sanchos Broken Arrow
- Almost Be On Key
- Foosball at Candle Light Tavern
ESTES PARK:
- Elkins Distillery (met Seth a rock climbing guide I want to hire…)
- Lots of shops
- Amazing antique store
- Bad coffee
- Good chocolate
